Samenvatting

Rambling with Rembrandt In and around Amsterdam Ken Wilkie and Eddy Posthuma de Boer On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth, writer Ken Wilkie and photographer Eddy Posthuma de Boer follow the artist's footsteps on his drawing expeditions in and around Amsterdam. En route, we not only become familiar with Rembrandt himself, we gain impressions of the places and situations that inspired him and stories behind the drawings. The drawings and etchings that Rembrandt made on his walks represent his free work and the subjects he chose tell us a lot about him. Following the death of his wife Saskia, and during a decade when he was under personal pressures, Rembrandt took off with his drawing materials in all directions from his home in Jodenbreestraat – along the Amstel, Diemerzeedijk, Sloterweg and Spaarndammerdijk as far as Bloemendaal. Eddy Posthuma de Boer followed him with his camera and Ken Wilkie with the pen, bringing Rembrandt's world into focus as it is today.
